Regular contributor on sport and business to magazines and newspapers including World Soccer and The National, websites such as playthegame.org and sportingintelligence.com and the BBC World Service radio programme, World Football.

Lectured on sport at the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre, Southampton Solent University, the University of Winchester and the University of East London. Author of five books on sport, including Outcasts! The Lands That FIFA Forgot (Know The Score 2007, second edition Pitch 2012) and GB United? British Olympic football and the end of the amateur dream (Pitch 2010).

Long-listed for the best column award in the 2015 Sport Media Pearl Awards and shortlisted for the 2008 National Sporting Club football book of the year award.

Articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals include: 'When is a National Team not a National Team' (Sport in Society, Vol 10, No 2 March 2007), 'Football and the Cyprus conflict' (Soccer & Society Vol 11, No 3 May 2010) and 'To GB or not to GB; The British Olympic Football Team' (Journal of Olympic History Vol 20, No 2 2012), 'One rule for one: the impact of Champions League prize money and Financial fair Play at the bottom of the club game' (Soccer & Society 2015) and 'Game on: the Commercialisation and Corruption of the Pre-Season Friendly' (Soccer & Society 2016).
