Free online course on Sport and Society
Duke University offers a free course on Sport and Society via the online e-learning platform Coursera.
Through tools from anthropology, sociology and history, the course ‘Sport and Society’ will explore the global role of sports and examine how sport influences both identity, culture, and society.
The course will be teached by Orin Starn, chair and professor at the department for Social Anthropology at the Duke University, North Carolina, US, who promises a closer look into how money, politics, race, sex, culture, and commercialization surround sports everywhere.
Among the topics that will be discussed during course that runs over a period of seven weeks, are sport and politics, the globalisation of sports, gender and sexuality, fans and the multibillion dollar business of sport.
The course is free to attend and starts on 30 April 2013.
