Hearing on EU sport policy
In a move to establish an integrated approach to sport policy in the European Union, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) is hosting a hearing on European sport policy.
Leading up to a hearing on European sport policy, Member of the European Parliament, Hannu Takkula, from ALDE, has issued a draft report that evaluates European sports policies from 2009 to 2016 with a focus on good governance, accessibility and integrity.
The hearing, which will discuss the draft report, will also see presentations from various stakeholders within sport including Play the Game’s Arnout Geeraert, author of the Sports Governance Observer 2015 report, who will give a presentation on how to renew governance structures in international sports organisations. Representatives from the Finnish Ministry of Education and EuropeActive will also be presenting at the hearing.
Second half of the hearing will take the form of a panel discussion about some of the issues that EU sport policy will have to face in the future, including how to secure integrity, transparency and better governance in sport as well as accessibility to sport for all EU citizens. The panel includes stakeholders from EU Athletes, UEFA, European Commission and others.
The hearing will run from 9-11 on Wednesday 12 October and take place in the European Parliament in Brussels. The event will be live streamed.
