RUSADA head and IOC athlete members among more than 150 speakers in new Play the Game 2019 programme

Whether you are engaged in grassroots sport, anti-doping, corruption prevention, event management, athlete activism, protecting children against abuse – or you are simply devoted to everything that has a taste of sports politics – you will have ample opportunity to pursue your interests at the upcoming Play the Game conference in Colorado Springs.
Moving the conference overseas for the first time has not reduced the appetite among academic experts, journalists, whistleblowers, sports officials, union leaders, and other stakeholders to speak up and share their knowledge and experience.
More than 150 speakers have signed up, and there are still a few vacant slots available in the programme that is now at hand in a detailed format.
Some of the most recent sign-ups come from people with great prominence in the sports debate:
Director General of the Russian anti-doping agency RUSADA, Yuryi Ganus, has confirmed his participation, and is set to debate with his American counterpart Travis Tygart, head of USADA, as well as the new iNADO Chairman, Michael Ask, WADA’s athlete chairwoman Beckie Scott, and the man who upset the whole anti-doping community five years ago, investigative reporter Hajo Seppelt from German broadcaster ARD.
Two IOC members representing athletes, Emma Terho from Finland and James Tomkins from Australia, have confirmed their participation in an opening panel featuring various types of athlete representatives including:
- Han Xiao, Chair, Athletes’ Advisory Council, USA
- Moritz Geisreiter, Board member, Athleten Deutschland, Germany
- Brendan Schwab, Executive Director, World Players Association, Switzerland
- Rob Koehler, Director General, Global Athlete, USA
You do not need to be a speaker to benefit from the conference, which offers unique networking opportunities over three and a half days. Among the social activities on offer, you will find an exclusive tour to the Colorado Springs Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, where nine Olympic and Paralympic sports have their home.
