Solid backing from Danish sport to Play the Game 2013 on home ground
In the past week, Danish sports organisations have contributed 33,333 Euros to a successful realization of the conference.
The decision to host Play the Game 2013 in Denmark again after eight years on tour in Iceland, England and Germany has been welcomed by the Danish sports establishment.
In the past week Play the Game has received confirmation of three generous grants representing a total of 250,000 Danish kroner (33,333 Euros).
The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF) and The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities (Lokale og Anlægsfonden) have granted 100,000 Danish kroner each, and the sum was rounded op by the Danish Association for Company Sport (DFIF) with a grant of 50,000 Danish kroner.
In addition to these grants, Play the Game and the Danish Institute for Sports Studies receive an annual operational grant of 500,000 Danish kroner from the Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations (DGI) to its international work.
“We are most grateful for the financial and moral backing expressed by the Danish sports association life, and it would impossible for us to host the conference in Denmark without this support,” says international director Jens Sejer Andersen.
“It is a particular challenge to host this conference without the contribution of a dedicated co-host such as we have had them in Reykjavik, Coventry and Cologne. The impact Play the Game’s message has had on the international agenda over the past years does not automatically translate into a healthy economy, so we cross fingers that also pending applications will be accepted.”
Most support is given as a general grant, but in the case of The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities most of the grant will be used to give hundreds of Play the Game participants an inspiring excursion into the realities of Danish association life, with particular focus on innovative architecture and activities for children.
