Thai FA under investigation for corruption

The Football Federation of Thailand (FAT) is facing possible disbandment after allegations of tax-evasion and of attempting to set up the Thai Premier League as a profit-making arm of the federation. If the allegations turn out to be true, the FAT faces disbandment.

"If FAT is found to have deliberately set up Thai Premier League for profit-making purposes the Thai Revenue Department will follow up the case. The FAT will then have a duty to withdraw the name of the football association, disband and set-up again," said Supachai Chaisamut, spokesperson for the governmental House anti-corruption committee responsible for the investigation, according to Reuters.

Thai civil law requires FAT to be a non-profit organisation and FAT president and FIFA Executive member Worawi Makudi appeared before the committee earlier this week to give his account on the financial transactions under investigation.

Worawi Makudi was investigated by FIFA’s Ethics Committee last year for misuse of football development funding but the FIFA executive member was cleared.
